"Jinrui wa suitaishimashita" volume 8 by Tanaka Romeo. Humanity has declined, and more visibly the population of Kusunoki has declined after the destructions from the previous volume. While humanity kept on becoming sparse, technology continues to improve. This volume presents a scenario where augmented reality would replace everyone's dreams, and it's a very convincing reflection on our real world technologies today.
Besides the technology bits, there is the quirky interactions with fairies, but not as much as the previous volumes. These fairies seemed to be on a decline as well, if the population trend on the cover is any evidence (7, 5, 8, 6, 7, 8, 5, and the current low of 4). Another subtle difference from previous volumes is how the main character has finally gotten named, at least up to the initial letter. Perhaps the series is near the end? It's amazing how all characters in this series reacts calmly to events, how all dialogues are well paced and relaxing to read, but at the same time there is a great sense of suspense. Looking forward to the next volume.
