"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass" by Lewis Carroll, illustrated by Kriss Sison. This is the 2014 version of the century old classic, combining the original text with new illustrations. A great book for all ages.
The text is the original text, which is best described as a series of dreams with very cleverly arranged words. The things and creatures in these stories are all mostly ordinary, and the words used to describe them are all very easy to read, but the contexts in which things comes together exploit every corner of logical reasoning. It is this play on logic and words that makes these stories fun to read over and over again. The fact that the main character is a young girl and there are lots of mentions of cats are added bonuses. I recommend everyone to read this if they haven't already, especially since the copyright has long expired and the original text with the original illustrations can easily be found online.
Highlight for this specific version are the illustrations by Kriss Sison -- this is the reason why I would buy this book and read it again. The new illustrations still accurately portray the scenes described in the text, but in modern manga style, and without the hint of gloom found in some of the old illustrations. Over 1/4 of all pages are illustrated, but the illustrations are not so overpowering to take away the spotlight from the original text. The fact that the main character is a cute girl and there are lots of pictures of cats are added bonuses. It was a well balanced piece of work.
If anyone wants to read these two fine stories of Alice again, this book is the version that I would recommend.
