"Hamamura Nagisa no Keisan Nooto" (Hamamura Nagisa's Calculation Notes) volume 3 by Aoyagi Aito.  This is the volume where we readers come to like the mathematically-inclined terrorists even more, but I am sure that has been the agenda all along.

The highlight of the series has always been the math bits, and the highlight of that for this volume is probably all the logical puzzles in the first chapter.  This chapter includes two variants of the Knights and Knaves puzzle, which can be simplified as "one of these two persons always lies" and "three persons made independent claims about each other and there are at least two liars in the room".  The puzzles themselves are perhaps fairly standard, but it was fun to read with the retro-RPG setting.  It was especially fun with the added mix of various paradoxes in the chapter, plus reactions from the clumsy terrorist game maker who would rather to see these players win.

As with previous volumes, the terrorists themselves were actually quite likable if they were not terrorists.  They are more like teachers who would very much enjoy students solving their puzzles, whereas real terrorists would not leave possibilities for solutions.  One such real terrorist appeared in the final chapter, and the contrast between the terrorist factions made the original group seem rather nice in comparison.  Although the ultimate end goal is not to get us readers to like any terrorist group, but to appreciate the same mathematics that they appreciate.  New characters come and go too quickly for readers to attach to any of them anyways.

Transient new characters aside, there is always Nagisa, and the author does not miss any opportunity to make Nagisa more attractive when discussing math.  Looking forward to seeing more of this teenage teacher in action in later volumes.
