"Argent Carrère" by Nomura Mizuki. This is a two volume fictional biography about a man who is both a great chef and a great soldier.
The first half of each volume consists of short episodes related to the various deserts that Argent makes, while the second half is where all the series plot took place. In the first volume, we learn how Argent became a revolutionary hero by helping the current queen come into power. Argent is described as a sharp eyed solider with fast and accurate reflexes, probably what most people expected from a conventional hero. No surprises here.
Just before the backstory on Argent's soldier life, we learn that Argent actually always wanted to become a chef, and it just happened that becoming a soldier was the only job available. The second half of the second volume is where Argent's dessert making skills were employed in maintaining peace among nations. It's difficult to imagine how a great dessert show would have this much influence, but the author managed a reasonable story. This completes the legend of Argent as a revolutionary hero, both as a solider and as a chef.
It's not a massive deep and complex story relative to some other novel series that this author wrote, but it's still fun and enjoyable nonetheless, especially for people who really like reading detailed descriptions of desserts.
