"Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!" (bless this wonderful world!) volume 6 by Akatsuki Natsume. Continuing on the romantic comedy route.
If this series were seriously going down the romance route, it's missing some love triangle kind of conflict, or so I thought. But according to Kazuma, what was missing was a "little sister" character. All these missing bits are conveniently filled by this princess seen on the cover of volume 6, who is willing to call Kazuma "Onii-sama", and appears to be a serious contender for Megumin's spot. So there you have it, Konosuba is now a romantic comedy series.
This volume gave more weight to the new character, resulting in the usual party not having as much action, and not quite the same vibe as the previous volumes. Still, there was a very impressive action scene that definitely conforms to the Konosuba spirit -- a well executed robbery that was almost foiled by booby-trapped porn. This was the best highlight for this volume, and it's reassuring that this series still has its adventure world appeal. The end of the volume hints at a more sinister scheme unfolding.
Predictability attracts new readers to a series, and unpredictability is what keep them engaged. The novel series was on a linear path to defeating the demon lord, but as of this volume, it's not so obvious which directions things will go. We will have to read on to find out.
