"Imouto sae Ireba Ii" (all good as long as we have younger sister) volume 9 by Hirasaka Yomi. This is the volume where Chihiro finally reveals her true identity.

Story aside, this volume continues to reflect the not so glamorous corners of the light novel industry. Lowlights include how some publishers exploit authors without ever intending to distribute their works beyond a few copies, or how new writers are required to stay with the same publisher for a few years even though such hidden rules were never spoken at all. There was one very relatable bit on telling interviewees to show up in casual clothes, and then scold them for not using "common sense" in wearing a suit to an interview. I am just glad that I am in a different industry.

Storywise, the highlight is definitely Chihiro's great punchline. There were some career developments for Miyako and Itsuki, but mostly everything up until the very end of volume 9 was building up to Chihiro's decisive moment, and it's finally done. The real little sister can finally claim her proper position.

Volume 9 ends just before other characters had a chance to react to Chihiro's bombshell. Can't wait to read the next volume.
