"Final Fantasy Guitar Solo Collection" by Uematsu Nobuo, arranged by Hirakura Nobuyuki. Scores for 41 guitar arrangements from Final Fantasy I through IX.
For people who are into classical guitar, this is a very good and hands-on way to experience the Final Fantasy series. The songs here comes in varying difficulty but are mostly playable by intermediate guitar players (easier than songs by Fernando Sor, for example). All songs are annotated with tabs and chords, and there is a companion CD that serves as example on how the songs should be played. It's a well rounded package.
Opening theme from the original Final Fantasy is the very first song, and it's the easiest to learn and master (and very recognizable since many later Final Fantasy games includes the melody in one place or another). It's worth noting that the songs from the 8 bit era are not necessarily easier than the 32 bit songs. Despite the different hardware that the songs were initially composed for, after normalizing for the guitar instrument, all the songs are similar in terms of complexity, and all of them are very pleasant tunes.
Whenever I buy one of these guitar scores, Amazon tells me that I am buying the last copy. This particular book is slightly more popular, there were two copies left. But confusingly, there were at least 9 different editions of Final Fantasy guitar scores with varying overlap between them. I got this because it had a good choice of FF6 songs, and it comes with a CD. If you are a classical guitarist with an interest in game music, the remaining copy is probably still there just waiting for you.
