"Echo: The Oracle's Scroll" by bumbleborn is a well-polished and charming platformer for the Playdate console.
The main quest in this game is in delivering the Oracle's scroll, which involves finding and unlocking a route to the top of the world. It's a metroidvania game in the sense that it has a large non-linear map where many areas become accessible after acquiring power-ups, but there is no fighting, and each screen has a sort of puzzle element to them. Even though the main objective might have been finding artifacts to move forward in the story, the main rewards are finding and executing the correct routes to solve the individual screens. It's like Metroid with Celeste, and thankfully not as difficult as either.
The intricate level designs are complete with smooth animation and relaxing background music. Besides adding to the ambience, there are puzzles where the music and sound effects serve as critical hints. The whole game is very polished overall, and makes you want to play it again immediately after reaching 100%.
I wholeheartedly recommend this game for all Playdate players.
