"Tesagure!  Bukatsumono"

"Tesagure!  Bukatsumono" was a great series, but I see very little reference of it in various forums.  It didn't seem like the series was generally perceived as bad, it's more like people have not thought about watching this series at all, which is a shame.  It's a really fun series.

One problem is that this series seemed low budget, and the fact that it was mostly a radio show rendered in low quality CG didn't help.  Compared to other series that premiered in the same week such as "Arpeggio of Blue Steel" or "Kill la Kill", there were definitely better ways to spend your 15 minutes.  But it never got worse -- once you accept that you are not going to look for production flaws in this series, it's very enjoyable to watch.

The first two seasons was centered around inventing new variations to club activities, while poking fun at existing anime and manga series at the same time.  Half of each episode were scripted while the other half were ad-lib, and the animation was added on after all the voice tracks were recorded.  This means this is one of the few anime series to use pre-scoring (as opposed to the common after-recording), and the end result is really natural sounding dialogues.  And when the characters sound good, they also appear to look good with the carefully synchronized motions.

The success of the first two seasons gave rise to the third season, with full-length episodes and a wider range of topics.  The pre-scoring techniques were kept, but otherwise just about everything goes.  This was a series heavily dependent on the skills of the voice actresses, and the third season saw the addition of several big name actresses.  Unfortunately, the third season was less consistent compared to the first two.  The good segments are great and the weak segments just drags on, but it never got worse than the low quality CG radio show, as promised.

I would recommend giving this series a shot, especially the first two seasons.  For the more technical people, it's worth watching just to see what happens when an entire series follow a different production process.  But generally it's worth watching just because it's all laughs from beginning to end.
