"Eromanga Sensei" volume 5 by Fushimi Tsukasa. This volume covers the Christmas and Valentine events, and also the back to school event... or not.
First half of this volume includes the Christmas party and the distribution of Valentine chocolates. In other words, this series has maintained the trend of giving readers exactly what they expected from usual romantic comedies. They were well written, but the best part of the first half was not related to these preset events. Really, the highlight of the book was the scene where everyone watched the premiere anime episode based on Elf's novel. It's the kind of novel writers' insider scope that made this series so great. The reactions of all characters in that scene and the punchline that resolved it made this whole volume worth reading.
The light hearted first half was a great contrast to the more serious second half, which comes with a new enemy and a new challenge. This time, the task was to get Sagiri to return to society. There was a joke involving a particular Google service that tickles me, but mostly everyone took the problem seriously. The cover art might suggest that Sagiri made it to school, actual result is a bit different and a lot more dramatic.
Consider Sagiri's steady progress in expanding her radius of activity, this series is probably past the midway point. Looking forward to development in the other characters in volume 6.
