"Jinrui wa Suitaishimashita - Mikakunin Seibutsu Supesharu" (Humanity has Declined - Cryptid Special) by Tanaka Romeo. Besides the usual fairies, this volume features fantastical creatures including dragons, trolls, mandrakes, and loan sharks.

Despite having fairies as a key plot element, this series has always been more science fiction than fantasy, until now. This is the volume that brings fairy tales to the world of fairies, starting with Brothers Grimm's "The Star Money". The original story might have been a tale about generosity, but when told through the cynical voice of our nameless heroine, somehow we end up with loan sharks. The moment when we read this extremely pragmatic ending 21 pages into this book, we know have returned to the familiar "Humanity has Declined" series.

This is a collection of short stories with a slight hint of fairy tale. The main four stories detail how a short publication went viral, how an inaccurate fortune teller may legitimately be a person from the future, how troll hunting became a game and sport, and how mandrakes are connected to the economy of haunted mansions. These all come with unique perspectives and casual crisis response that are trademark features of this series. There are no developments that affect the main story in any way, it's pure entertainment for people who wanted to read more of our nameless heroine.

It has been more than a year since the previous bonus volume. I was not expecting to find another book that would fill the void of the "Humanity has Declined" series, and here it is. It's a great extra volume and I am glad there is more life to this series.
