Super Mario World

I started playing Super Mario World and reached the ending in 1.5 hours, which is much longer than I expected. I would like to say it's because my reflexes have aged much more than the game, but they were just not all that great to begin with.

One thing that I didn't remember was Super Mario World having any kind of story at all. It's most likely because there weren't any story to be remembered in the first place. But if we read between the lines, it starts like this:

"Princess Peach is missing again! It's definitely Koopa's fault!" (English version: "Princess Toadstool is missing again! Looks like Bowser is at it again!")

But it's not like Koopa left a ransom note, why is Mario so quick to accuse Koopa? This suspicion might seem justified if we trust Yoshi, who claims that it was Koopa who trapped him in these eggs. But then when Mario defeated Koopa at the end (after throwing the toys that Koopa has generously supplied to Mario back at Koopa), we see fireworks go off in the background. When was the last time a real villain responded to a home invasion with fireworks? It's really strange when we think about it.

The final dialogs were like this:

"This concludes Mario's adventures. With Yoshi's friends, Peach's fun vacation starts once again..." (English version: "Mario's adventure is over. Mario, the Princess, Yoshi, and his friends, are going to take a vacation.")

The "once again" bit is lost in the English localization, but if I were to make a backstory that fits the beginning and ending, I think the reality is that Koopa runs an amusement park called Dinosaur Land, and everyone willingly participated in this attraction as part of their vacation package. Princess Peach was in on this the whole time, plus she never really liked the short and stout Mario, and preferred to stand closer to the tall and handsome Luigi.

Koopa/Bowser is really a nice guy when you think about it.
