This is a small tribute to a fallen tree.
This fallen tree is tree #143 in a park that I frequent. We had strong winds two days ago, and this tree was one of the victims.
This kind of thing happens all the time, of course. I am not an expert in identifying individual trees and generally don't get sentimental about them, but I remember this specific tree since I took many pictures of it not too long ago, while it had this great mushroom. Even though mushrooms are transient and trees are usually more permanent, in this case I remembered the mushroom better than the tree, and today my feelings were "the tree that once hosted the great mushroom is now down". Bummer.
So then I went back through my archives to see if I had earlier photos of this tree, and I found a great horned owl perched on this tree two years ago.
Given that mushrooms were growing on it, it probably was already dying before the gusts done it in, but it definitely had a great career of hosting many great things. It was just a random tree #143, but I will remember it.
