Today I bid farewell to doll.social. doll.social joins the list of social networks that have quietly faded away, previous one was Pluspora.
I joined doll.social in 2019 on the demise of Google+. The primary reason for picking a topic-specific instance like doll.social was because the generic mastodon.social wasn't open for public registrations at that time, so it wasn't exactly my first choice. Since then, I managed to get on mastodon.social as of 2023-04-14, and Bluesky as of 2023-10-16. So there wasn't as much motivation for me to maintain a presence on doll.social anymore.
Still, I would have preferred to stick with doll.social to the bitter end, because that's the kind of person I am. But as of two days ago, I found that I can no longer upload photos, and feeds from other instances no longer show up. I checked the local timeline to see if other users were seeing the same issues, and that's when I noticed that nobody else has posted anything since last year. It seems like everyone else has already left, and it was time for me to leave.
It was fun while it lasted.
