"Isekai Goumon Hime" (Torture Princess of Another World) volumes 4-6, by Ayasato Keishi. This world is a very different place.

The novel series obviously started off in a different world, but even that world has mutated to something more bizarre in volumes 4 through 6. The defeat of the 14 demons in volume 3 was not the end of the threat to humanity, but actually the beginning of the last judgement for all races. The turn of events vaguely resembles certain religious texts, but the author is more explicit in explaining how each scene should be interpreted. It was not quite a pleasant story, but it was good reading.

Despite appearing in the title of this series, the original torture princess Elizabeth did not get as much action in these volumes, neither did the various torture gadgets that were highlights of the first three volumes. Instead, a new torture princess, Jeanne, would come to reveal the conspiracy that the church has been plotting all these years. But even Jeanne would gradually yield the spotlight to Kaito, the servant to Elizabeth who did not really do much in the first three volumes, and the one who obtained great power and eventually saving the world in volume 6. The character development in this arc was quite good, and all the spoilers are in the covers: volume 4 features Jeanne, volume 5 is the level up moment for Kaito, and volume 6 is the climax with Kaito and Hina.

The story has been interesting, but many of the interesting characters met their demise in these recent volumes, and the author promised that real hell will follow in subsequent volumes. Volume 3 was a good place to stop, and volume 6 was an even better place stop. Maybe I will wait for next few volumes to be published before deciding whether I should continue.
